I grew up in south Florida and completed my undergraduate studies not far away from home at Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter, Florida, earning my Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biological and Physical Sciences, with a concentration in Environmental Science. During my undergraduate research, I studied quantitative ecology and plant eco-physiology and became hooked on understanding the inherent abilities of plants. The focus of my DPhil, supported by the Clarendon Scholarship, is to further our understanding of the molecular oxygen-sensing machinery that enables symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF) in legumes. The ultimate goal of this research is to develop methods for engineering SNF into non-leguminous plants. Aside from plants, I love picnics in the park, witty comedies, and I have warmly embraced the habit of an afternoon cup of tea.
